Men's Tennis Peforms Well at Fall Tourney
09.24.2009 | Men's Tennis
Each team was scheduled to play at East Tennessee last weekend but rain prevented that tournament from being played. The mini-tournament included the men's and women's teams of UNC Asheville, East Tennessee State, Tennessee Tech and members of the Asheville tennis community.
"We were able to throw a little tournament together pretty quick," stated Bulldog head coach Lise Gregory. "It was good for both of our teams to play against some good competition that should prepare us for the spring season."
On the men's side, freshman Adrien Langeard and Matt Waissen both won their two singles matches in the Royal Group.
In the Blue Group, Ryan Matthews had a solid effort with two victories. Thomas Rees split a pair of matches. Nathan White fell in his one match.
In doubles play, the duo of Adrien Langard-Matt Waissen won two matches as did Nathan White-Thomas Rees in the Royal Group.
In the Blue Group, the doubles team of Alex Appelt-Nicolai Nonnenbroich dominated as they won all three of their matches handily.
"All in all we had some good performances throughout the weekend," commented Gregory. "We have more depth than we've had in the past few years, and I think that will show throughout the year."
The men's team will be off until the weekend of Oct. 16-19. Part of the squad will compete next in the ITA Regional in Chapel Hill from Oct. 16-19. The rest of the team will be at the Tennessee Fall Invitational from Oct. 16-18.
