Ficker and Miotto Garner Honors for the Second Straight Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C.-- UNC Asheville's Lauren Ficker has been named the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Player of the Week in volleyball, while Baylee Strachan from Winthrop was tabbed the Freshman of the Week.  Asheville's Raquel Miotto picked up Defensive Player of the Week honors for matches played Sept. 7-13, the League announced today.

 Ficker, a senior from Hendersonville, N.C., put away 48 kills, 3.20 kills per set and hit .406 to lead the Bulldogs to a 2-2 record last week.  She got her week started with 11 kills, a .474 percentage at the net, three digs and one block as the Bulldogs downed Savannah State, 3-0 on Sept. 11.  Later that day against East Carolina, Ficker posted 13 kills, a .480 attack percentage, seven digs and three blocks.  The next day against Wofford, she connected on 15 kills, while posting a .302 hitting percentage, seven digs and three blocks.  She closed her weekend out with nine kills, a .474 attack percentage, six digs and two blocks as Asheville blanked Winston-Salem State, 3-0.  For the week, Ficker recorded 23 total digs and nine blocks.

 Miotto, a senior from Sau Paulo, Brazil, became the Big South's all-time digs leader with 2,188 as she posted 73 digs in UNC Asheville's four matches last week.  Against Savannah State, Miotto traded the Libero jersey in and hit outside for the Bulldogs, putting down nine kills, seven digs and one ace.  Against East Carolina, Miotto moved back to the Libero spot and came up with 13 digs and three aces.  She highlighted her weekend with 37 digs and two kills against Wofford.  She finished the weekend with 16 digs, two aces and one kill against Winston-Salem State.  In the four-match span, Miotto averaged 4.87 digs per set.

The Bulldogs will be back in action on Friday, Sept. 18, as they compete in the S.C. State Spikefest in Orangeburg, S.C. against Winston-Salem State and Hampton.
