New Baseball Coach to be Announced on Monday

ASHEVILLE, N.C.?UNC Asheville will name its new baseball coach at a press conference on Monday, July 6, at 10 a.m. in Owen Hall. The announcement will be video streamed at uncabulldogs.com.

The press conference will be held in the Owen Conference Room on the third floor of Owen Hall. The video stream will begin at 9:55 a.m. Viewers will be able to watch the stream free of charge.

The Search Committee submitted its choice of four candidates to Athletics Director Janet Cone his week ending the search that began after Willie Stewart resigned on June 12. Stewart served as the head coach of the Bulldogs for the past five years (2005-2009). He led the program to a 94-182 overall record during his tenure. Stewart guided the Bulldogs to a school-record 28 wins in the 2006 season when they captured the Big South Conference Tournament championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history.  UNC Asheville finished this past season with a 9-42 overall record and 10th-place finish in the Big South Conference.

The new coach will be the eighth head coach in program history following Stewart, Matt Mayers (2001-04), Mike Roberts (2000), Bill Hillier (1995-99), Jim Bretz (1991-94), Steve Pope (1988-1990), and Ken Bagwell (1986-87).
