Bulldogs Record 19-14 Win over Presbyterian

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville baseball team scored a season-high 19 runs as the Bulldogs defeated visiting Presbyterian 19-14 Thursday afternoon at Greenwood Field.
The teams combined for a total of 43 hits. Asheville recorded a season-high 22 hits, while Presbyterian recorded 21.
The Bulldogs (9-40, 5-19 BSC) opened up the scoring in the first inning when Beau Zinman drove in Kevin Weidenbacher from third base with a sacrifice fly. Later, a single from Cody Buch scored Jordan Lurie to make the score 2-0.
Presbyterian (11-38, 5-19 BSC) came back to tie the game in the top of the second. Nate Horton hit a two-out homer to make the score 2-1. Zac Rhinesmith who had five hits in the game singled and later reached second on a wild pitch by Justin Schumer. Gabe Grammer who also went 5-for-5 hit a single up the middle of the infield to drive in Rhinesmith and tie the score at 2-2.
Asheville scored five runs in the bottom of the third after scoring one run in the bottom of the second and holding Presbyterian scoreless in the top of the third. With the bases loaded, Blue Hose pitcher Chris Powell threw a wild pitch that allowed Mike Vaughn to score from third base. The next four batters all recorded hits and drove in three more runs. Weidenbacher who went 4-for-4 capped off the inning's scoring with sacrifice fly to right fiedl that drove in Catlin Carter from third base and gave the Bulldogs an 8-2 lead.
The Blue Hose struck back with three runs in the top of the fourth. Horton hit a RBI double that scored Kenny Bryant from first base. Horton scored on a single by Rhinesmith. A double by Andrew Williams drove in Rhinesmith for the PC's fifth run of the game.
Both teams went scoreless in the fifth inning, but PC unloaded for six runs in the top of the sixth. The inning was highlighted by a three-run home run by Jared Combs that made the score 11-8 in favor of the Blue Hose.
Asheville tied the game in the bottom of the sixth. Kreiser hit a bases loaded single that scored Beau Zinman. Austin Graham who had a career-high four RBI then hit a double to center that drove in Cody Buch and Vaughn.
PC took answered back with two runs in the top of the seventh, but Asheville responded as with four runs in the bottom of the inning. Vaughn crushed a three-run homer to put the Bulldogs ahead for good 14-13. Graham drove in the Bulldogs' 15 run with sacrifice fly to leftfield that drove in Buch.
Presbyterian tacked on one run in the top of the eight on a RBI single from Grammer.
The Bulldogs put up four more runs in the bottom of the eight and Dillon Tabar pitched a scoreless ninth innning to secure the victory.
Weidenbacher and Buch both had four hits for the Bulldogs. Buch had an impressive return after being out for an extended period with an injury. The freshman from Charlotte, N.C. went 4-for-5 from the plate with three runs and one RBI.
Matt Dalby recorded his first win of the season after pitching 2 2/3 innings. Andrew Foushee (1-7) took the loss.
The Bulldogs return to action tommorrow in the second game of the series at Greenwood Field. The game was originally scheduled to take place at 3 p.m., but has been moved up to 1 p.m. due to the threat of rain in Asheville.
