Big South Baseball Fans: 

The Orange Peel in Downtown Asheville, just up the street from McCormick Field at 101 Biltmore Avenue, is a 942-person live music venue, recently chosen by Rolling Stone Magazine as one of the Top 5 Places to See Live Music in the U.S.  The Peel features an ever-changing roster of top local and national acts all year long; past artists have included the Smashing Pumpkins, Sonic Youth, Blondie, Hootie and the Blowfish, and Bob Dylan.

The Peel is proud to welcome the Big South tournament coaches, players and their families!   During the week of the tournament, the venue will be hosting a diverse line-up of bands from all music genres, including country, Christian rock, metal, and more.  We hope visiting teams will be able to come Downtown to experience some of the best live music in the Southeast, in the heart of historic Downtown Asheville!  As a special offer to all tournament participants and their families, The Orange Peel is offering discounted tickets to all their concerts during the week of May 17th through May 23rd, exclusively for Big South teams!  Visit the Orange Peel's website - http://www.theorangepeel.net/ - for full calendar listing.  Discount tickets may be purchased online or at the Orange Peel's box office located at the venue.  Just mention the access code listed for each concert to take advantage of the special price.

Description - Christian Rock; all ages:  With a deft combination of Christian rock gems, driving pop songs, and heartfelt ballads, Jars of Clay is back with a new record,  The Eleventh Hour. This is a record that reclaims the passion and honesty that captivated millions of music fans introduced to their innovative blend of harmonious folk, techno and alt-rock stylings in the mid-1990s.  With nearly five million records sold and a decade of musical history under their belt, Jars of Clay comes full circle.

10 Years - Wednesday 5/20 at 8:00pm

Description - Metal; ages 18 and up: This Knoxville, TN based quintet is driven by hard rock riffs and passionate melodies. After the conception of 10 Years in early 1999, the founding members, Brian Vodinh, Ryan Johnson, and Matt Wantland knew that they had something special. "We love creating, writing, and experimenting," says Brian. The driving force behind 10 Years is their dedication and motivation.  The band officially launched their groundbreaking EP, Killing All That Holds You, in April of 2003.  The band has showcased their talent to broader audiences by sharing the stage with such headliner acts as Nonpoint, 30 Seconds to Mars, Saliva, Pacifier, Shinedown, and Cave In.

Asheville Rewind - Friday 5/22 at 8:00pm
 
Description - Local Benefit featuring 4 Great 80s and 90s rock bands; all ages:  M7 Events present the “Asheville Rewind”, an event to benefit the Eliada Children's Home in Asheville NC.  The Rewind will feature FOUR Bands that rocked Asheville in the late ?80s and early ?90s. Mother Soul, Charlie's on Acid, The Stripp Band, and members of Prayin' for Rain/The Rattlesnakes will reunite for one night only on May 22nd. 100% of net proceeds from ticket sales will benefit Eliada Home. Tickets are ONLY $10 and are available online.

Matt Stillwell - Saturday 5/23 at 9:00pm
 
Description - Country; ages 18 and up: Country singer, songwriter, and guitarist Matt Stillwell grew up in the Appalachian Mountains in Sylva, North Carolina, which gave him a grounding in rural musical styles, although he listened to a wide range of pop music during his teens, from Garth Brooks to Guns N' Roses. He attended Western Carolina University, earning All-Southern Conference honors as a baseball player. Moving to Nashville to seek a career in music, he developed contacts with some of the city's best musicians. He self-released "Take It All In" on his own Still 7 Records label on June 13, 2006. Two years later he released "Shine". The album's title track was also the anthem for the two-day music festival Stillwell created, Shinefest. Planned as an annual event, the inaugural Shinefest 2008 was held in Fontana Dam, NC
