Pearson Qualifies for 100 and 200 at Big South Championships

RADFORD, VA. ? The UNC Asheville men's and women's Outdoor Track and Field squads competed on Friday at the New Balance Big South Conference championships at Cupp Stadium.
Highlights on Thursday included Emma Bussard of the Bulldog women's squad earning points in the 3000-meter Steeplechase. She finished in fifth place with a time of 11:45
On the men's side, Nick Mozzone earned a point for UNC Asheville in the high jump with an eighth place finish. He had a leap of 1.90 meters.
Junior sprinter Natalie Pearson earned her way into the finals in both the 100 and 200 that will be held on Saturday. She had a time of 11.85 in the 100 and 24.44 in the 200.
Senior Morgan Weeks had another busy day. She competed in the Heptathlon in the long jump, javelin and 800. Weeks took seventh in the javelin. The Virginia native also found time to compete in the shot put competition and had a throw of 9.69.
The Bulldogs had two runners in the 800. Michelle Busse finished with a time of 2:28, while Katie Olert had a time of 2:42.
Corrie Trotter had a jump of 1.50 in the high jump.
Sam Maynard and Andrew Burnette had solid performances in the 800. Maynard posted a time of 1.55. Burnette, battling back from an injury, had time of 1:58.
Adam Matthews just missed getting a point in the Steeplechase as he finished ninth with a time of 10:05. Daniel Corriher also finished ninth in the shot put at 13.90.
Dane Corriher competed in the 400 meters and had a time of 50.00.
The final day of competition will be on Saturday starting at 9 a.m.
