ASHEVILLE,
N.C. ? The UNC Asheville men's
tennis team returns to action this weekend with two matches. On Saturday, the Bulldogs will take on Kennesaw State
at noon at Asheville
School. The following day, the team will travel to Greenville, S.C.
for a 4 p.m. match against defending Southern Conference champion Furman.
UNC Asheville (0-3) dropped two matches last week. On Jan. 31, the Bulldogs fell 7-0 against East Carolina.
Appalachian State defeated the Bulldogs 7-0 on Feb. 1.
Saturday's match will be Kennesaw State's
second ever Division I dual competition.
In fact, this season is the first time Kennesaw State
has offered men's tennis as a varsity sport.
The Owls roster includes one senior, one sophomore and 10 freshmen. On Friday, the Owls will play their spring season opener against Big South
member Presbyterian in Clinton,
S.C.
Furman enters Sunday's match with a 0-2 record, but both of
those defeats have been against top-25 opponents. On Jan. 23, the Paladins lost 5-2 to No. 7
Florida in Gainesville. Furman fell 5-2 on Jan. 24 in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
to No. 19 Alabama. Last season, the
Paladins finished with a 16-11 overall record and went undefeated (9-0) in the
Southern Conference. The Paladins'
doubles pairing of Robert Ladyman and Andy Luc entered the spring season with a
No. 9 national ranking. Ladyman is also
ranked 104th in singles.
Results from this weekend's matches will be posted at
