ASHEVILLE, N.C.?UNC Asheville and Gardner-Webb's women's basketball team will get together on Monday for a key Big South matchup on Monday night in Boiling Springs. The teams are separated by just one game in the conference standings. Tip-off will be at 7 p.m. and can be heard live in the Asheville area on ESPN Radio 1310/970 WISE.

Both teams are coming off wins on Saturday. Asheville (9-15, 6-5 Big South) defeated Presbyterian 67-58 for its second road victory of the season. Gardner-Webb (13-11, 5-6 Big South) defeated High Point 63-60 to move to 10-1 at home this season.

UNC Asheville enters the contest tied with Coastal Carolina for fourth place in the Big South standings. Gardner-Webb is lurking just one game back in seventh place. Radford is 5-5 in the league in sixth place. Although GWU is in seventh place, it is only a game and half out of third place in the tight conference race. An Asheville victory would give the Bulldogs the same number of wins as second place High Point, it next opponent. A loss would drop the Dogs into a sixth place tie with Gardner-Webb.

Asheville won the first meeting of the season 67-59 on Jan. 10, at the Justice Center. Bulldogs' leading scorer Ana Baker had 14 points in that game. She is fourth in the Big South averaging 12.7 points per game. Lindsey Montgomery had a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds in the first meeting. Lindsey Thompson had 10 points in that game.

GWU was led by Teonika Webb who scored 11 points off the bench. Laura Povilonyte scored 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Povilonyte had 23 points and nine rebounds in the Runnin' Bulldogs victory over High Point on Saturday. For the season, Margaret Roundtree is leading the team averaging 11.8 points and 6.2 rebounds per game. Povilonyte is averaging 11.6 points and 5.8 boards per game.

UNC Asheville owns a 16-3 advantage in the all-time series. Most of those victories came while both schools were NAIA. Asheville was 10-1 against GWU in the NAIA days of the early 80's. Asheville holds a 5-2 mark in the series since 2000.
