Women's Basketball to Face Charlotte on Saturday at 2 p.m.
12.04.2009 | Women's Basketball
Asheville (2-4) hopes to halt a three-game losing streak against the 49ers (2-5) but it won't be easy. Charlotte is 2-5 but has faced a very tough schedule in the first part of the season. The 49ers defeated the Bulldogs at Justice Center last season, 72-50.
"We have our work cut out for us," commented Asheville coach Betsy Blose. "We're still trying to find an identity and a work in progress. Charlotte may be the best team we play this year. They're big and athletic and can beat you a lot of different ways. Forget their overall record as they've played a demanding schedule. They'll win plenty of games this year."
Asheville is coming off a tough loss at Western Carolina on Wednesday, 62-51. The Bulldogs battled hard and led most of the first half but some second-half scoreless stretches cost them down the stretch.
"We're competing and battling but at times we're struggling to score," declared Blose. "We just have to put the ball in the basket."
NOTES - Charlotte leads the series 11-3 and won four straight in the series...the Bulldogs last win in the series was a historic one as Asheville upset the 49ers 55-41 in the first women's basketball game ever played at Halton Arena on Dec. 2, 1996...Lindsey Thompson leads the Bulldogs in scoring with a 10.2 average...Asheville is out-rebounding its opponents 43.2 to 39.2...the Bulldogs begin a three-game homestand next Friday (Dec. 11) against Southern Wesleyan.
