12.16.2009 | Women's Basketball
The Bulldogs (3-6) shot a season-low 26 percent (14-of-53) from the field and made just one three-pointer in 19 attempts to finish at five percent.
The Eagles (5-4) won their fourth straight game and were led in scoring by J'Lisia Ogburn with 16 points. Jamie Navarro added 11 points, while Carolyn Whitney and Samantha Williams finished with 10 points each.
Lindsey Montgomery led the Bulldogs with her second straight double-double as she finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
"We've got to make shots," stated Asheville coach Betsy Blose. "We battled pretty hard, did a nice job on the boards but you have to make some shots. We just didn't do that tonight, despite some good looks."
The Eagles led the entire game but the Bulldogs hung around in the first half despite shooting 25 percent (7-of-28) from the field. Asheville was within 27-21 late in the first half before the visitors used a 7-0 run in the final three minutes to take a 34-21 halftime lead. Navarro hit a long trey at the 34-second mark to give GSU the 13-point lead.
Early in the second half, the Eagles continued the run and pushed the lead to 41-23 when Ogburn scored on a lay-up at the 16:14 mark.
The Bulldogs chipped away with some good defense and rebounding and snuck back to 46-34 when Montgomery made Asheville's only three-pointer of the night at the 9:17 mark.
But Asheville would only score four more points the rest of the game as the Eagles picked up their second straight win over the Bulldogs.
Asheville out-rebounded Georgia Southern, 40-38. Kelli Riles added eight rebounds for the Bulldogs. Navarro had six assists for GSU.
