SPARTANBURG, S.C.-Kelli Riles had a career-high 11 points and Lindsey Thompson had a career-best eight rebounds but UNC Asheville could not overcome 36 turnovers in a 78-60 loss to USC Upstate on Saturday afternoon.

Riles 11 points led the Bulldogs (2-3) who shot 34 percent from the floor. She was 7-for-10 from the free throw line and collected seven rebounds. Thompson had 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting and a pair of three pointers. Linda Aughburns added seven points and 10 rebounds while Grace Blaylock had a season-high nine points on 3-of-5 shooting from three-point range.

Upstate (4-2) was led by Courtney Hawkins' 15 points. She was a perfect 8-for-8 from the foul line. Kendra Wallace had 14 points including four three-pointers and Koko Richardson had 12 points and seven rebounds.

Upstate led the game from start to finish using a 10-0 run after the first media time out to build a 19-8 lead with 14:06 left in the half. Asheville would get the lead down to seven points twice in the game but could never get closer.

Riles made a pair of free throws with 1:46 left in the first half to make the score 39-32. Asheville had a chance to cut deeper into the deficit before the half but missed the front end of a one-and-one which the Spartans turned into a 5-0 to lead 45-33. Riles converted a three-point play with five seconds left in the half to make it a 45-35 game at halftime.

Asheville turned the ball over on its first possession of the second half and on 11 of its first 16 possessions in the half as Upstate built its lead to 17 points (61-44) with 10:28 left to play.  In the first 10 minutes of the second half, Asheville had scored nine points, taken 11 shots, and turned the ball over 12 times.

Upstate had its largest lead 75-51 at the 5:09 mark of the second half. The Spartans held a 32-14 advantage in points off turnovers.

Chioma Okoli fished with five points marking the first time she has failed to score in double-figures this season.   Asheville went 6-for-13 (46 percent) from three-point range but was only 12-for-40 (30 percent) from two-point range.
