Bulldog Women Return to Conference Play against Gardner-Webb on Saturday

ASHEVILLE, N.C.?UNC Asheville women's basketball team returns to Big South Conference action on Saturday as it hosts Gardner-Webb in a 2 p.m. game at the Justice Center. The game can be seen live on the Big South Edge for a small fee. The first 500 fans in attendance will receive a free Dog Bone Bag Clip courtesy of Mission Sports and Rehab.

 

The Bulldogs (4-11, 1-1 Big South) are coming off a 78-74 loss to Carson Newman on Wednesday. Ana Baker led the ?Dogs with 21 points and seven assists. Baker's first assist on Saturday will tie her with Vicki Giffin (1993-97) for the Division I school assist record. Chioma Okoli continues to lead the ?Dogs in scoring at 11.9 points per game. She had 15 against Carson-Newman and is seventh in the Big South in scoring. Lindsey Montgomery had 12 points on Wednesday on 6-for-7 shooting from the floor.

 

Gardner-Webb (7-7, 0-2 Big South) dropped a pair of Big South road games last weekend to Liberty and Radford. The Runnin' Bulldogs are playing their third straight game on the road. Margaret Roundtree leads the team in both scoring and rebounding averaging 12.4 points and six rebounds per contest. Laura Povilonyte is scoring 11.4 points per game while taking a team-high 55 three-point shots. Dominique Hudson is averaging 10.4 points per game and Courtney Epps is just shy of double-figures at nine points per contest. Gardner-Webb is second in the Big South in scoring.

 

UNC Asheville is 15-3 all-time against Gardner-Webb. The two teams split two games last season with each team winning on its home court. This is the first time they have met as conference rivals.
