Bulldog Volleyball Roars Past Hampton in Three Games

SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Lauren Ficker and Kelsey Benorden combined for 24 kills as UNC Asheville opened play in the USC Upstate Classic with an impressive 3-0 victory over Hampton Friday evening. The Bulldogs won the match 25-13, 25-16, 25-14.

Asheville (2-2) was led by Ficker with 13 kills with just one error in 21 attempts. Benorden finished with a double-double as she had 11 kills and 10 digs. Raquel Miotto had 13 digs for the Bulldogs. Ficker finished with three service aces.

Julie Torbett's club had a great day hitting. Asheville hit. .365 on the day with 35 kills, eight errors on 74 swings. Setter Kaitlyn McDaniel contributed 20 assists.

“I'm really pleased at how we played today,” commented Torbett. “We were in control of the match from start to finish and had a very consistent match. Our serving was very much improved from last week.”

The Bulldogs play twice on Saturday at the tournament. They'll face Southern Conference foe Wofford at 11 a.m. and the face host USC Upstate at 7 p.m.
