UNC Asheville's volleyball team wrap up a 12-match road trip this weekend as it competes in the Seahawks Classic hosted by UNC Wilmington.

The Bulldogs (6-4) will face Virginia Tech on Saturday at Noon and UNC W at 5 p.m. in the one day tournament format. Asheville has won its last three matches over Norfolk State, NC State, and Western Carolina and four of its last five.

“We have been playing good volleyball heading into this weekend,” said Asheville head coach Julie Torbett. “We still need to work on being more consistent but we are playing with a lot of confidence. Virginia Tech is a strong team and of course UNCW will be playing at home where they are dangerous. We are trying to focus on improving with every match and hopefully we can continue playing well.”

Asheville is undefeated this season on its opponent's home floor having beaten USC Upstate, NC State, and Western. The Dogs are 3-4 in matches played at a neutral site.

Kelsey Benorden leads the Dogs offensively averaging 3.33 kills per set and is second on the team in digs at 3.20 per set. Lauren Ficker is the team's best hitter percentage wise as she is hitting at a .315 clip which is the fifth highest in the Big South. Raquel Miotto is this week's Big South Libero of the Week. She leads the team averaging 3.70 digs per set. Miotto is in fifth place on Asheville's all-time dig list with 1,451 career digs. She is nine digs behind Kelly Budnik (2000-03) who is in fourth place.

Virginia Tech comes into the Seahawk Classic with a 7-2 mark. The Hokies have already played four five-set matches and are 2-2 in those matches. They won the Arkansas Invitational last weekend defeating Arkansas, Lamar, and Tennessee-Martin.

UNCW is 5-5 heading into its home tournament. The Seahawks are 2-1 at home this season and are coming off a 3-1 loss at East Carolina. UNCW won the Elon Tournament two weekends ago defeating Elon, Campbell, and NC A&T but have lost its last four matches.

Live stats for both matches will be available on UNCW's website which is uncwsports.com. The match against UNCW will be video streamed beginning at 5 p.m.
