CHARLOTTE, N.C. ? The Charlotte men's and women's cross country teams dominated their home course as they won both team titles at the Bojangles' Invitational on Saturday morning.
Charlotte redshirt junior Adu Dentamo came in second in the men's 8-kilometer race with a time of 25:56 and Charlotte sophomore Amanda Goetschius was the winner of the women's 5-kilometer run (18:56).
In the men's race, UNC Asheville took the sixth spot behind Charlotte, East Tennessee State, Saint Joseph's, Xavier, and fellow Big South member Winthrop.
Senior Adam Matthews was the top finisher for the Bulldogs in the men's race with a 26th place finish and a personal record time of 27:55.
The Bulldog women finished in seventh behind Charlotte, Saint Joseph's, Xavier, Winthrop, Lenoir-Rhyne, and East Tennessee State.
Freshman Emma Bussard led the way for UNC Asheville placing 40th with a time of 21:43.
Head coach Jesse Norman thinks this meet will help his team get better as the season moves forward.
“I think this meet gives our kids a good idea of where we stand right now and what we need to do in order to progress and get better,” said Norman. “This was the first college distance for a lot of our freshmen and it opened their eyes so they know what they have to do now.”
The Bulldogs will race again next week in Lynchburg, Va. at the Big South Preview hosted by Liberty.
