ASHEVILLE, N.C. ? The NCAA announced today that UNC Asheville junior center Kenny George led the nation in field goal percentage this season.

The Chicago native shot a school-record and Big South-record 69.6 percent from the field this season. He played in 28 games and was 151-of-217 from the field as he helped lead the Bulldogs to a school-record 23 wins, a co-Big South Conference regular-season championship and a berth in the NIT.

George becomes the first UNC Asheville men's basketball player to ever lead the nation in any statistical category. The last Bulldog student-athlete to lead the nation in a statistic was volleyball player Ilona Fekete who led the nation in blocks during the 1990 season.

“I'm really happy to hear that Kenny led the nation in field goal percentage,” stated UNC Asheville coach Eddie Biedenbach. “He did a great job for us this year and really showed a great deal of improvement from last year to this year. We're excited that we've got Kenny back for next year.”

In addition, George finished the season ranked eighth nationally in blocked shots with a 3.3 per game average. He completed the year with a school-record 93 blocked shots.
