Indoor Track Teams Head to Niswonger Invitational This Weekend

Track and Field Squads Compete at Western Carolina

CULLOWHEE, N.C. ? The UNC Asheville men's and women's Outdoor Track and Field team had a productive meet at the Western Carolina Invitational on Saturday.

 

Both Bulldog teams had some strong individual results on Saturday. First-year coach Jesse Norman believed his teams worked hard this weekend.

 

“We did a pretty good job overall,” commented Norman. “I thought our teams had some productive results on Saturday. We're just trying to get better from one meet to the next and do our best at the Big South Conference meet in a few weeks (April 17-19).”

 

On the women's side, senior Ingrid Allstaedt finished fourth in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:59. Katherine Clark had a time of 5:34 in the same event.

 

The Bulldogs had three runners in the 800 meters with Elizabeth Duncan finishing in a time of 2:25, followed by Katie Olert at 2:34 with Emily Becker at 2:36.

 

Corrie Trotter continued her good work in the spring by taking third in the high jump with a leap of 1.50 meters. She finished seventh in the long jump at 4.50 meters.

 

Morgan Weeks placed eighth in the javelin (26.89m) and ninth in the shot put (9.32m).

 

On the men's side, senior Erik Nabi had another solid meet with a third-place finish in the javelin (49.88m).

 

Omar Ahmad placed third in the triple jump (12.76m) and seventh in the long jump (6.04m).

 

Daniel Corriher came in sixth in the hammer throw (41.19). It was the fourth best throw in school history. He finished seventh in the shot put (13.36m).

 

Dane Corriher took fifth in the 400 meters with a time of 50.53. Andrew Burnette was ninth at 50:57. Matt Holman placed sixth in the 800 meters at 2:00.

 

Duane Stepp finished 12th in the 1500 meters at 4:41, while Robert Abrahamson came in 14th at 4:51.

 

Brandon Hamilton competed in the 400-meter hurdles and finished with a time of 1:07. Adam Matthews competed in the 3000-SteepleChase and had a time of 10:31.

 

Both teams compete this weekend at the Duke Invitational (April 4-5).
