ASHEVILLE, N.C. ? The UNC Asheville baseball team returns to McCormick Field Wednesday night when the Bulldogs host mountain rival Western Carolina in the Parkway Series starting at 7 p.m. Admission is $4. The game will be video-streamed by www.uncabulldogs.com for a small fee.

UNC Asheville is 11-13 on the season pending a game at Wake Forest this afternoon. The Bulldogs had a busy weekend with five games in four games. Asheville won two out of three against Hartford, including a record-breaking 33-8 win over the Hawks on Saturday. The Dogs split a double-header with defending Ivy League champion Brown on Sunday as they won 9-3 in the first game and fell, 13-12 in the nightcap.

“I like the way we're playing,” commented UNC Asheville coach Willie Stewart. “We're hitting the ball better than I thought and our young kids are getting better with each game. We still have plenty of improving to do but we're battling each and every game.”

Western Carolina is 6-14 on the season but played a very tough schedule. The Catamounts host East Tennessee State on Tuesday.

“We know Western Carolina has a good team,” stated Stewart. “They have played an extremely demanding schedule against some of the nation's best teams.”

The Bulldogs are being led at the plate by shortstop Kevin Wiedenbacher. The junior college transfer is hitting .363 and carries a 19-game hitting streak into Tuesday's game at Wake Forest.

Senior outfielder Elliott Arrington is hitting at a .330 clip and drove in 10 runs in three games last weekend, including a seven-run day against Hartford on Saturday.

Asheville opens Big South Conference play at High Point Friday night at 7 p.m.
