ASHEVILLE, N.C.?UNC Asheville's women's basketball team will face Big South leader Liberty in its final regular season home game Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. in the Justice Center. The game can be seen via live video stream on bigsouthsports.com for a small fee.
The Bulldogs (11-16, 2-8 Big South) will celebrate Senior Day as their two seniors Ashton Barton and Stacy Shepard will play their final regular season home game. Barton is currently 10th on Asheville's all-time scoring list just one point behind Tonisha Jackson for ninth place. Shepard is fourth all-time in rebounding. She leads the Big South and is the division I single-season rebounding leader at Asheville. Shepard is attempting to become the first Bulldog player to average double figure boards in the division I era. The two seniors have a four year record of 65-53 making them the second winningest class at Asheville in the division I era.
The Flames (24-3, 9-1 Big South) are coming off their first conference loss of the season which ended a 13-game winning streak. All three of Liberty's losses this season have come away from the Vines Center. The Flames are already clinched the top seed and a first round bye in the upcoming Advance Auto Parts Big South Tournament. Preseason Player of the Year Megan Frazee leads the Big South in scoring at 18.1 points per game while her sister Moriah is tied for fourth in the league at 13.2 points per game. Liberty leads the Big South in points, rebounding margin, and field goal percentage.
Liberty leads the all-times series 35-7 after a 69-55 victory at the Vines Center on Feb. 9. The Bulldogs last win in the series came in Lynchburg last season. The Dogs last win against Liberty at the Justice Center came during the 1997 season.
