ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville women's basketball team will try to snap a four-game losing streak at Coastal Carolina on Wednesday night. Game time is set for 7 p.m. and can be seen live on the Big South Edge for a small fee.
The Bulldogs (10-13, 1-5 Big South) are coming off a 69-55 loss at conference leading Liberty on Saturday. There were a number a bright spots for Dogs. Stacy Shepard went over the 700 career rebound milestone in the game while Chioma Okoli hit a season-high four three-pointers.
Ashton Barton continues to lead the team and is fourth in the conference averaging 13.4 points per game while Shepard leads the Big South in rebounding at 9.9 boards per game. Asheville has won in its last three trips to Conway and has taken seven of the last eight meetings against Coastal Carolina (14-7, 2-4 Big South).
After dropping their first three conference games, the Chanticleers have rebounded to win three of their last four games. Lacey Lyons leads CCU in scoring at 12.7 points per game and leads the Big South at 2.76 threes per game. Vicky Blanchard adds 11.1 points but is scoring 15.8 points per conference game. Blanchard had 19 points and 15 rebounds in the first meeting between the two teams on Jan. 26. Coastal leads the Big South in scoring defense allowing just 54.5 points per game and in 3-point percentage hitting on 36.2 percent of their long range shots.
Coastal Carolina maintains a 24-22 lead in the series, despite losing the last three meetings. The Dogs took a 63-54 victory at the Justice Center on Jan. 26, and won the last meeting in Conway 74-46 last Feb. 10.
