ASHEVILLE, N.C. ? UNC Asheville's women's basketball team travels to Campbell on Thursday night for its first road game since Nov. 22. The 7 p.m. game can be heard free of charge on uncabulldogs.com beginning at 6:45 p.m.
The Bulldogs (3-6) will be looking to put consecutive victories together for the first time this season after an 84-78 win over Johnson C. Smith in their last outing. Leading scorer Chioma Okoli had 19 points against the Bulls. She is sixth in the Big South in scoring at 14 points per game. Kendall Shepard is coming off a career-high 17 point effort against JCSU while Jessica Monroe had her second double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
Campbell (4-3) returns home after dropping two straight conference games to Florida Gulf Coast and Stetson over the weekend. The Camels shot just 24 percent and were 0-18 from three-point range in a 60-50 loss to the Hatters on Monday. Gara Bell had 14 points and 14 rebounds while Jessica Mack had 10 points and eight rebounds against Stetson. The Camels out-rebounded the Hatters 56-32 on Monday. For the season, the Camels out rebound opponents by eight boards per game. Campbell is 3-0 at home in the brand new Pope Center.
Thursday's game will be the 32nd all-time meeting but the first time at the Pope Center. Campbell holds a 25-6 lead in the series although Asheville has won two of the last three including last seasons 68-55 victory at the Justice Center. The Camels won 18 in a row in the series from 1985-1994.
