Bulldogs Face Johnson C. Smith on Saturday

ASHEVILLE, N.C.?UNC Asheville's women's basketball returns to the court on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. against Johnson C. Smith at the Justice Center. The game be heard live on ESPN Radio 1310/970 WISE and can be seen live on the Big South Edge for a small fee.

 

The Bulldogs (2-6) have been in exams and have not played since last Saturday. Big South Player of the Week, Lindsey Montgomery scored 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds in a 72-50 loss to Charlotte. Montgomery is fourth on the team in scoring at 7.1 points per game but she has put back-to-back double-figure scoring games together. Chioma Okoli continues to lead the Dogs in scoring at 13.4 points per game. Okoli had 11 points against Charlotte and has scored in double-figures in seven of eight games this season. Ana Baker is scoring 10.2 points per game and leads the team in assists averaging 5.2 helpers per game.

 

Johnson C. Smith (5-3) is coming off an 84-76 victory over Mars Hill on Monday. The Golden Bulls were led by Wendy Stywalt who recorded a double-double with 29 points and 12 rebounds. Stywalt leads the Bulls averaging 16 points and 7.7 rebounds on the year. Janai Jackson is averaging 10.6 points while Demetria Bell pulls down 9.9 rebounds per game. Freshman Terran Quattlebaum was 4-for-4 from three-point range against Mars Hill. She is shooting 34% from beyond the arc.

 

Saturday's game marks the first meeting between the two schools in women's basketball. The game is apart of UNC Asheville's Super Saturday promotion where fans can buy tickets to all Saturday women's basketball games for just $25. The first 200 fans on Saturday will receive free UNC Asheville pom-poms.

 

The Bulldog men will host Catawba in the second game of the day beginning at 4:30 p.m.
