ASHEVILLE, N.C. ? UNC Asheville women's basketball coach Betsy Blose has announced the signing of two players to national-letters-of-intent in the early signing period. The two players are 5-7 guard Grace Blaylock from Lord Botetourt HS in Blue Ridge, Va. and 5-11 forward Candice Fritz from North East HS in North East, Md.

Blaylock was the 2008 Blue Ridge District Player of the Year and earned first team All-Region honors last season at Lord Botetourt. She was second team All-State selection as a junior and was Honorable Mention All-State player. Blaylock set a single-season for three-pointers made last year with 64. Blaylock is the niece of Coach Blose.

“We are very pleased with the signing of Grace Blaylock,” declared Blose. “This will offer a whole new experience for me to coach my niece and for Grace to play for her aunt. I thought long and hard about it from both sides and it all came back to she has all the qualities that I look for in a player. I know what I am getting with Grace, and it will be a privilege to coach here. She's a good three-point shooter and that's a need we have identified for 2009.”

Fritz was the Cecil County Player of the Year in 2008. She averaged 14 points and six rebounds per game as a junior.

“We are excited Candice is joining our program,” stated Blose. “Two years ago, she walked into our gym for the Nike Shooting Camp and we immediately recognized her as a great player who can play in our program. She's skilled and athletics and can play either as a guard or forward. Candice has a great mid-range game and will continue to grow in our system.”
