Women?s Basketball Travels to Furman on Tuesday

ASHEVILLE, N.C.?UNC Asheville's women's basketball team will take the court at Furman on Tuesday night for a 7 p.m. game. The game can be heard in the Asheville area on ESPN Radio AM 1310/970 WISE.

 

Furman (1-0) is coming off an 82-68 victory over Clemson on Friday night. Lee Stephens scored a career-high 34 points against the Tigers. UNC Asheville (0-2) dropped two games over the weekend to Fairfield and William & Mary.

 

Chioma Okoli earned All-Tournament honors for her performance at the UNC Asheville Tip-off Tournament. She went 10-for-22 (.455) from the floor, 4-for-7 (.571) from three points range and also grabbed 7.5 rebounds per game while her teammates combined to shoot 30-96 (.321) Jessica Monroe went a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw over the weekend while the rest of the team went 5-for-18 (.277).

 

Last season, Asheville took a 79-67 victory over Furman at the Justice Center. Ashton Barton scored a game-high 22 points to lead all scorers. Ana Baker had 10 assists and eight rebounds to lead the Dogs. Kali Holtfreter had 16 points for the Paladins.

 

The Bulldogs and Paladins have met 22 times with each team winning 11 times. Asheville has won two straight in the series since the last time the two teams played in Greenville. Furman took a 79-65 victory in 2004 at the Timmons Arena. Asheville won at home 66-62 in 2005. After a year break, the Bulldogs won last year 79-67 at the Justice Center.
