Volleyball Falls at Coastal on Friday

CONWAY, S.C.?In a battle of the two hottest teams in the Big South, it was Coastal Carolina who extended its winning streak to seven straight matches with a 25-19, 25-22, 25-23 victory over UNC Asheville on Friday night.

The Bulldogs (16-12, 8-7 Big South) saw it season-high six match win streak come to an end. Kelsey Benorden led the Dogs with 12 kills while Cindi Miller hadded eight kills but the rest of the team combined for just 12 kills. Raquel Miotto led the defensive with 16 digs and Heather Burns had four blocks as she moved into ninth place on Asheville's single season block assists list.

Coastal Carolina (24-8, 12-3 Big South) was led by Chelsy Kimes who had 12 kills and 11 digs. Megan Bickford had 10 kills while Jill Nyhof had nine kills and five blocks.

The Chanticleers out-hit the Bulldogs .252 to .115 in the match and out-dug Asheville 57-44.

UNC Asheville will try to bounce back as it ends Big South regular season play on Saturday at Charleston Southern. The match is set for a 7 p.m. start. Coastal will host Presbyterian in their final regular season match.
