CLINTON, S.C. ? Scott Szymanski scored twice to lead UNC Asheville to its second straight victory with a 2-1 Big South Conference win over Presbyterian Tuesday night at PC Stadium.

The senior forward scored right before halftime and right after intermission to give the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead. The Blue Hose scored late to cut the lead to 2-1 but UNC Asheville was able to hold on to get the win.

“I'm very pleased to go on the road and get a result,” commented UNC Asheville coach Steve Cornish. “Our lads did a good job tonight and we're starting to find ways to win.”

Freshman goalkeeper Lassi Hurskainen made three saves to earn his fourth win of the season for the Bulldogs.

Asheville (4-4-2, 2-0-0 BSC) is off to its best start in league play at 2-0 since the 2004 team started off 3-0-0.

Szymanski tallied his first goal of the night at 34:33 off a feed from J.W. Gallagher. He beat PC goalkeeper Andrew Brandt on a shot to the lower right corner of the net for a 1-0 Asheville lead.

Early in the second half, freshman Jake Sides sent a pass to Szymanski who scored from five yards out for a 2-0 Bulldog lead at 46:44.

The Blue Hose spoiled the shutout when Michael Czulinski scored at 84:37.

Asheville plays next on Saturday afternoon at Greenwood Field when the Bulldogs host Big South foe Radford at 2 p.m.
