Baseball Announces Winter Camps

10.06.2008 | Baseball

ASHEVILLE, N.C.?UNC Asheville head coach Willie Stewart will be conducting three winter baseball camps this year. Dates for the camps will be Dec. 13-14, Jan. 17-18, 2008 and Jan. 24-25, 2009.

Registration is available on line at http://www.active.com/framed/event_detail.cfm?event_id=1641956&customreg=blank or by filling out the attached PDF and mailing it back to the UNC Asheville Baseball Office.

The December camp and the first January camp will be skills camps open to athletes 13 to18 years old who want to refine offensive and defensive skills. Athletes will get instruction in areas such as hitting, defense, pitching, speed, strength and more. Mechanics will be dissected and athletes will have a chance to refine their abilities with

the help of the staff. Coach Stewart and his staff will emphasize situational hitting, drills, and video analysis of your swing compared to big league hitters. They will not only go over mechanics, but also explain the necessary mental aspects of hitting.

Pitchers will get drill work and throw bullpens with pitching coach Tim Perry. Your “pens” will be videotaped and analyzed by Coach Perry. If weather cooperates we will hit live on the field in controlled scrimmages. If there is bad weather we will utilize our spacious indoor facilities.

The final camp on Jan. 24-25, will be for pitchers and catchers. This session provides an opportunity for players, ages 13-18, to receive professional guidance during a period when instruction is often non-existent. The input offered through this session will give players a sense of what needs to be developed over the winter break in order to advance their game to next level for the upcoming season. This two-day instructional session will include defensive instruction and bullpen sessions for pitchers and catchers during

the mornings. Pitchers will be videotaped and analyzed by the coaching staff. Instructors will offer individualized feedback regarding mechanics and strategy.
