Shepard Grabs 600th Rebound in Loss at South Carolina

Bulldog Women Face Charleston Southern on Tuesday

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C.? UNC Asheville women's team arrived in Charleston on Monday evening in preparation for its Tuesday game at Charleston Southern. The 7 p.m. game can be heard live in the Asheville area on ESPN Radio 970/1310 WISE with the pre-game show beginning a 6:45 p.m. The game will also be video streamed on bigsouthsports.com for a small fee.

The Bulldogs (10-9, 1-1 Big South) are coming off a 63-54 victory over Coastal Carolina on Saturday. Ashton Barton moved into 12 place on Asheville's all-time scoring list with a team-high 19 points in the Coastal game. She is eight points shy of reaching the 1,000 point milestone for her career. Barton leads the Dogs in scoring on the season at 13.4 points per game which is fourth in the Big South.

Stacy Shepard has enjoyed playing Charleston Southern during her career. The senior center is averaging 12 points and 8.2 rebounds in six games against the Lady Bucs. Shepard leads the Big South in rebounding at 9.5 boards per game and is coming off her fourth double-double of the year as she had 11 points and 14 rebounds against Coastal on Saturday.

The Dogs have played the last four games with only eight players and are 3-1 over that time. Asheville has gotten on the boards averaging 51.8 rebounds in the last four games and have gotten to the foul line making 74 free throws while the last four opponents have only attempted 70 from the stripe. Opponents are shooting 10-for-61 (16.4 percent) from three point range over the last four games.

The Lady Bucs (6-14, 1-2 Big South) return home after making nine three-pointers a 75-66 loss at Winthrop on Saturday. Pam Tolbert is the only CSU player averaging double figure points. She is second in the Big South in scoring at 16.6 points per game. Natalie Caldwell is averaging 9.1 points. Crystal Robinson was last week's Freshman of the Week, she is averaging 7.4 points and 4.9 rebounds per game. Katie Tull hit five three-pointers for the Lady Bucs at Winthrop. As a team, CSU shoots 30 percent from beyound the arc and 35 percent from the floor. CSU is last in the Big South in scoring averaging just 58.9 points per game.

Asheville leads the all-time series 26-20. The two teams split last year's meeting with both teams winning on their homecourt. Asheville won 72-55 at the Justice Center and CSU pulled out a 76-73 victory at here in Charleston.
