Benorden records Double-Double; Dogs Fall at CSU

CHARLESTON, S.C.? Kelsy Benorden recorded 15 kills and 18 digs for her fifth-straight double-double but she did not get enough help as UNC Asheville fell 30-25, 30-27, 30-22 at Charleston Southern on Saturday afternoon.
Benorden now has 10 double-doubles on the season and hit .268 on the match. The rest of the Bulldogs (6-13, 0-2 Big South) had 28 kills and hit .113. Lauren Ficker added nine kills, Ashley Wrightenberry seven kills, and Heather Burns contributed five kills and hit .385 on the match.
Games one and two were tight all the way through. In the opener, the two teams were tied at 22 before CSU went on a 4-0 run highlighted by two kills from Popovich that put the Bucs up 26-22. After a kill by Burns, the teams played sideout volleyball until CSU got a block on game point to take game one 30-25.
Game two saw eight ties but UNC Asheville could never get a lead. The last tie was at 15-15 before CSU went on a 12-5 run to take a 27-20 lead.
In game three, CSU sided out on 81 percent of its chances and broke open a 16-15 game with a 13-6 run to grab match point at 29-21. After a kill by Ficker, Hill ended the match with her match high 17th kill.
