Emily Mase Takes Second at Big South Conference Preview Race

HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. - The High Point men's and women's cross country teams dominated the Big South Preview Cross Country Meet on a rainy Friday afternoon at a muddy Jackson Park.
 
UNC Asheville's Emily Mase finished in second place at a time of 18:42. VMI freshman Hannah Granger took third place at 18:45. Radford's Tara Connor finished in fourth place at a time of 19:05, followed by Halsey Sinclair of Radford with a time of 19:07.
 
The Panthers women's squad took home first place with 38 points as junior Zsanett Kis won the 5K race with a time of 18:33. HPU had its five runners finish in the top 11 as it outdistanced second place Radford with 52 points. UNC Asheville finished third with 76 points.
 
Senior Ingrid Allstaedt of UNC Asheville came in eighth place at a time of
19:26. Liza Duncan took of Asheville took 16th at 20:29.
 
The High Point men's team won in convincing fashion as its five runners all finished in the top 10. Radford took second place with 48 points. The Panthers had Tamas Kovacs finish first over the *8K course with a time of 25:56. Jesse Cherry of HPU took second at 26:16. Radford's Dawit Legesse finished third at 26:50. High Point's Josh Morgan placed fourth at 26:59. Lucas McAneney took fifth at 27:03.
 
The Bulldogs of UNC Asheville came in fifth place with 113 points. Andrew Burnette was Asheville's top runner in 15th place at 28:20.
 
"We had some good performances today on a very sloppy day," commented UNC Asheville coach Jesse Norman. "It was good to run this meet and I appreciate all the hard work we got from everybody at UNC Asheville to make this meet happen."
 
Jackson Park will host the Big South Conference Cross Country Meet on Saturday, Oct. 27.
