ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville women's basketball coach Betsy Blose has announced that current assistant coach Adell Harris has been promoted to Associate Head Coach. Blose also announced the hiring of Brooke Johnson as an assistant coach. She will take the place of Faisal Khan.

Harris has been a part of the Bulldog program for the past four years, including this year's Big South Conference championship team. UNC Asheville finished with a 21-12 overall record, the best mark for the Bulldog program in 23 years. Asheville advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history.

"Coach Harris has done an outstanding job of helping us take our program to a championship level," declared Blose. "Her hard work, loyalty and commitment on a daily basis played a significant role in winning our first Big South Conference championship this past spring.

"In my opinion, Coach Harris is one of the great young coaches in our game today, and we are so fortunate to have her," added Blose. "Her knowledge of the game, her ability to prepare our team for our opponent and her ability to recognize and make adjustments during game situations set her apart from all others. More importantly, our players love and respect her. This promotion is very much deserved."

Johnson joins the Bulldog coach staff after spending last year at St. Andrews Presbyterian College in Laurinburg. Prior to her stop at St. Andrews, she was Director of Basketball Operations at East Carolina during the 2005-06 year. Johnson enjoyed an excellent playing career at Peace College in Raleigh. She set eight school records and had her number retired following her career. In addition, Johnson led all of Division III her senior year in assists.

"We're excited Brooke has decided to join our staff," stated Blose. "She was an outstanding collegiate player and comes from a basketball family. Her experiences with AAU coaching in North Carolina, a swell as her time with East Carolina and St. Andrews will serve her well. We are glad Brooke is part of our Bulldog family."
