ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville Head Women's Basketball Coach Betsy Blose announced the signing of Shelby High School standout Lindsey Montgomery on Tuesday. Montgomery is the fourth freshman to sign with the Bulldogs this year.
Montgomery averaged 23 points and 14 rebounds for Shelby High School as a senior and was named the SWC Player of the Year. She also earned All Piedmont and All Charlotte Observer honors. Montgomery scored 1,924 in her high school career as well as earning scholar athlete accolades in basketball, volleyball, and track.
"We are excited to have Lindsey join our program," said Blose. "We fill we have signed not only a quality player but a quality person. Lindsey is a great athlete who fits our system with her versatility and athleticism. She can defend, rebound, and get to the basket off the dribble."
Montgomery will participate in the East-West North Carolina All-Star Games in Greensboro in July. She joins Chioma Okoli, Kendall Shepard, and Reecie Moore in the 2007 recruiting class.
UNC Asheville is the defending Big South Conference champions. The Bulldogs will play their first exhibition game of 2007 on Nov. 1, vs. Mars Hill at the Justice Center.
