Women Travel to Gardner-Webb on Monday

ASHEVILLE, N.C.--UNC Asheville's women's basketball team will travel to Gardner-Webb on Monday night for a 7 p.m. game. The game will be broadcast on the internet at uncabulldogs.com.
UNC Asheville has won two straight games after a 68-55 victory over Campbell on Wednesday. The Bulldogs are 6-4 on the season and are the second highest scoring team in the Big South averaging 70.7 points per game.
Gardner-Webb (2-9) has lost six in row after falling 66-57 to Longwood Saturday night. Laura Povilonyte had a season-high 15 points and 10 rebounds while Margaret Roundtree also scored 15 points against Longwood. Roundtree is second on the team averaging 11.2 points per game. Monique Hudson is GWU's leading scorer at 13.1 points per game.
Asheville defeated Gardner-Webb 76-60 in the consolation game of the Carolina First Tournament on Nov. 17, at the Justice Center. The Bulldogs have been getting balanced scoring in their last two victories. Againt Presbyterian, Asheville placed six players in double figures and had four players in double figures against Campbell.
Stacy Shepard has recorded double-doubles in each of the last two games. Ashton Barton leads the team in scoring at 13.6 points per game but has not been the leading scorer in either of the Dogs last two victories. Ana Baker leads the Big South and is sixth in the nation in steals at 3.9 per game. GWU has struggled with turnovers comitting 35 miscues at Longwood. Baker also leads the Big South in assists at 5.8 per game.
"We are treating this like a conference game," said Asheville head coach Betsy Blose. "Just becuase we won at our place does not mean anything is guarenteed. Gardner-Webb is a well coached team that will make adjustments and we will have to play well to win."
