Asheville Trio Honored at Volleyball Banquet

LYNCHBURG, Va.? Kelsey Benorden and Raquel Miotto were each named second-team All-Big South and Ashley Wrightenberry earned a spot on the All-Academic Team as announced at the League's annual volleyball awards banquet held at the Kirkley Hotel Wednesday night.
Benorden led the team and is second in the Big South at 3.97 kills per game. She is the first UNC Asheville freshman to record 400 kills in her debut season amassing 456 kills this year. She led the conference with 20 double-doubles and leads the team with 30 service aces. Benorden was all selected to the All-Freshman Team.
Miotto led the Bulldogs in digs for the second-straight season. Her 541 digs this season are the sixth highest single-season mark in Asheville history. She has eclipsed the 1,000 career dig mark in just her sophomore season. She currently has 1,262 career digs which is 10th all-time.
Wrightenberry, the only senior on this year's team, is one block assist away from setting a new school record. She and Iloma Fekete (1990-92) both have 339 career block assists and sit atop the Asheville record book. Wrightenberry is second on the team in blocking this season averaging 0,87 blocks per game. Her .242 attack percentage is also second on the team.
The Bulldogs begin tournament play this afternoon as the No. 6 seed. They will face No.3 seed High Point at 4:30 p.m. The match will be video streamed on the Big South Edge at www.bigsouthsports.com.
