ASHEVILLE, N.C. ? The UNC Asheville women's basketball team will host the third annual Carolina First Classic at Justice Center this Friday and Saturday. Tickets per day are $6, while tournament passes are $10.

The Classic tips off Friday night at 6 p.m. when Georgia State takes on future Big South Conference member Gardner-Webb. UNC Asheville hosts Davidson at 8 p.m.  On Saturday, the consolation game will be at 2 p.m., followed by the championship game at 4 p.m.

The Bulldogs started off the season with a 75-48 win over Montreat Monday night as freshman forward Lindsey Montgomery became the first UNC Asheville freshmen in 20 years to open her collegiate career with a double-double as the she scored 15 points and grabbed 15 rebounds.

UNC Asheville coach Betsy Blose is looking forward to hosting the tournament this weekend.

“I like that we're hosting a tournament and this should be a great tourney this year,” commented Blose. “We have three good teams coming to the Justice Center and all four games should be great contests.”

The Bulldogs face a tough foe in Davidson. The Wildcats were 23-9 last season and have two starters back from that team. Davidson defeated Asheville last year, 67-55 at Belk Arena. The Wildcats are 0-1 on the season after falling to Georgia Tech, 69-50.

“We have a tough task in facing Davidson,” stated Blose. “They are a very good team that went to the WNIT last year. We're going to have to play at our absolute best to have a chance to beat them.”

Gardner-Webb is 1-1 on the season as the Runnin' Bulldogs beat Montreat and then lost a close, 72-63 decision to Georgetown of the Big East Conference Tuesday night. Georgia State is 0-1 on the season after a tough 60-58 loss to Florida A&M Friday night.
