ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville women's basketball team opens the 2007-08 season Monday night when the Bulldogs host Montreat College at Justice Center starting at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast on WISE Radio (1310-AM) and can be seen on video-streaming at www.uncabulldogs.com.

The defending Big South Conference champions will bring an injury-riddled team into Monday night's game as the Bulldogs have battled injuries throughout the preseason.

"We've been through some injuries in the early going, and we're just going to have play through those injuries," stated UNC Asheville coach Betsy Blose. "Our kids have worked hard and are looking forward to playing a game."

UNC Asheville downed Montreat easily last season, 99-40. However, the Cavaliers are much improved and are 1-1 on the season. They led Gardner-Webb by 10 in the first half on Saturday before getting saddled with foul trouble in the second half and losing, 98-53.

"Montreat is a much better team this year, and I expect them to give us a tough battle on Monday night," commented Blose.

UNC Asheville has a busy week as it will host the Carolina First Classic this weekend. The Bulldogs take on Davidson Friday night at 8 p.m. and play either Gardner-Webb or Georgia State on Saturday.

"We're glad to be opening the season at home with three games," explained Blose. "We really appreciate the folks at Carolina First for sponsoring this tournament."
