UNC Asheville Women's Cross Country Wins Gardner-Webb Invitational

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. ? Emily Mase and Ingrid Allstaedt finished 1-2 to lead the UNC Asheville women's cross country team to a first-place finish at the Gardner-Webb Invitational Friday evening.

 

Mase ran the 4K course in a time of 15:38 to claim first place. Allstaedt took second place at a time of 15:51. The victory gave first-year UNC Asheville coach Jesse Norman his first ever invitational title.

 

Liza Duncan took fifth place with a time of 16:25, while sophomore Katie Olert came in 10th at 17:23. Freshman Colleen Vetti completed the Bulldog scoring with a 17th-place finish at 18:45.

 

UNC Asheville finished with 35 points to edge past Gardner-Webb with 39 points. Appalachian State and Wofford took third and fourth place respectively.

 

On the men's side, UNC Asheville finished in second place in the three-team meet with 36 points. Four Bulldogs finished in the top nine to finish just behind Gardner-Webb and in front of Wofford.

 

Andrew Burnette continued his strong season for UNC Asheville with a third-place finish at a time of 20:51 over the 6K course. Adam Matthews took fourth place at 21:34. Freshman John Barringer came in eighth place with a time of 22:25. Senior Joel Quirk took ninth place at 22:37.

 

Matt Holman finished in 12th place with a time of 23:24. Duane Stepp took 15th place at a time of 24:23. Freshman Robert Abrahamson rounded out the Bulldogs at 17th place with a time of 24:32.
