CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Big South baseball will receive national television exposure this Sunday when ESPNU, the 24-hour college sports network, televises the UNC Asheville-Winthrop ballgame live from The Winthrop Ballpark in Rock Hill, S.C. at 2:00 p.m. The televised contest will conclude the three-game series between the two squads and features the Big South's last two Conference Tournament champions (Winthrop - 2005, UNC Asheville - 2006). Mike Gleason (play-by-play) and Kyle Peterson (analyst) will call the action. Sunday's game in Asheville and Buncombe County can be seen on Charter's Digital Package, Channel 322.

UNC Asheville is 10-18 overall and carries a three-game win streak into this weekend's series against the Eagles. The Bulldogs are coming off two mid-week wins (7-3 home win over Furman Tuesday afternoon; 4-3 win at East Tennessee State Wednesday night), and are led by Rob Vernon, who is tops on the squad in batting (.330), home runs (5) and RBI (24). He also was the 2006 Big South Tournament MVP. On the hill, Ben Buchanan, Alan DeRatt and Graham Baughn each have two wins to lead the Bulldogs' pitching corps.

Winthrop enters the weekend with a 17-13 overall record and four-game win streak, as well as a perfect 3-0 Big South mark following its sweep of VMI last weekend. Louis Ullrich paces Winthrop's hitters with a .330 batting average, followed by Chris Carrara's .327 average. Billy Froehlich is the Eagles' top home run hitter with four and he shares the team RBI lead with Ullrich at 19. On the mound, Jason Franzblau is 4-2 with a 3.20 ERA and 48 strikeouts to just nine walks in 50.2 innings pitched. Preseason Big South Pitcher of the Year Alex Wilson (1-2, 3.16 ERA) is the reigning Conference Pitcher of the Week as well.

ESPNU is televising a regular-season Big South baseball game for the second consecutive year, as the network aired two ballgames in 2006. It also will be the third-straight year that Big South baseball will be televised.

All three games over the weekend can be heard on the internet at uncabulldogs.com. Friday's opener will have Josh Lett facing Alex Wilson at 6 p.m. with the broadcast set to begin at 5:50 p.m. Saturday's game will be at 2 p.m. with Graham Baughn on the mound for Asheville against Jason Franzblau.
