ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville Women's Basketball Coach Betsy Blose has announced the signing of three players to national letters-of-intent today. The three are Arescia Moore of South Central High School in Winterville, Chioma Okolia of Brookwood High School in Snellville, Ga., and Kendall Shepard of Northwestern High School in Hyattsville, Md.

"We fulfilled our needs for next year with the signing of these three players," stated Blose. "We are continuing to sign players who will help us become the transition and full-court pressure team that we want to be."

Moore is a 6-2 center who averaged 10 points and eight rebounds per game for South Central last year. She is a versatile player who has played all five positions on the floor during her career."

"We think we've signed a good player is Arescia," commented Blose. "She didn't play AAU ball and other schools just didn't know about her. Arescia has unlimited basketball potential and athleticism and versatility. She can play every position on the court and can score around the rim."

Okoli is a 5-7 guard who also plays on the Georgia Nike Elite team. Last year, she averaged 15 points, four rebounds and had two assists per game at Brookwood. Her sister, Chika, plays for Samford's women's basketball team.

"Chioma is quick and athletic," declared Blose. "She will add speed and athleticism to our perimeter game. We like the fact that she can get out and run the floor. Chiorma also can score off the dribble and shoot the three."

Shepard is a 5-5 point guard who also plays for Team Excel AAU in Maryland. She averaged 13 points, seven assists, five rebounds and two steals per game at Northwestern last season.

"One of our biggest needs for 2007 is a point guard," explained Blose. "We certainly got one in Kendall. She's a smart and intelligent player and will add speed and quickness to our perimeter game. Kendall is a coach on the floor who can create a shot for a teammate."

UNC Asheville opens the 2006-07 season at Davidson Sunday afternoon starting at 3 p.m. The Bulldogs finished the season unbeaten in exhibition play after downing Newberry, 75-46 Wednesday night.
