Volleyball Picks Up First Victory at Elon 3-2 - UNC Asheville Bulldogs Official Athletics Site

ELON, N.C. - Elif Unlu led three UNC Asheville hitters in double figures with 15 kills as the Bulldogs picked up their first victory of the season 30-24, 26-30, 33-31, 28-30, 15-9 over Elon Tuesday night.
Asheville (1-4) took advantage of a combined 18 hitting and serving errors by the Phoenix (0-1) who where playing their first match of the season.
"I am proud of the way our young team kept its focus in a tough environment tonight," said Asheville head coach Julie Torbett. "We continue to improve with each match. Having Shannen Bagge back really helped. Our team needed to win a five-game match and we got one against a good team tonight."
Bagge played in her first match of the season and collected nine kills along with 11 digs and two blocks. Lauren Ficker and Ashley Wrightenberry each had 11 kills for the Bulldogs.
Asheville had gone five games in three of its five matches this season. The Bulldogs out-blocked the Phoenix 10-8 in the match and held a .222-.214 hitting percentage advantage.
Raquel Miotto led the team with 24 digs and freshman setter Kaitlyn McDaniel added eight kills, eight digs, and 45 assists in the match.
The Bulldogs will play at home for the first time this season when they host the UNC Asheville Classic this Friday and Saturday. Asheville will play Cleveland State on Friday at 7:30 p.m. before facing UNC Greensboro and East Tennessee on Saturday.
