ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville's baseball game with Western Carolina, scheduled to be played at McCormick Field on Wednesday, March 29 has been postponed.

The game was delayed due to ongoing construction being done at McCormick Field that has made the field not playable on that date.

"We appreciate the city of Asheville keeping us informed about what's going on at McCormick Field," stated UNC Asheville Athletics Director Janet Cone. "We would have liked to have played the Western Carolina game at McCormick Field but we certainly understand with all the work they have to do to get ready for the Tourists season that this won't be possible. We're looking forward to playing our eight remaining games we have scheduled there this season."

"We are very disappointed that the ongoing construction at McCormick Field has caused us to postpone the UNC Asheville-Western Carolina baseball game," stated Butch Kisiah, Superintendent of the Recreation Division of the City of Asheville Parks and Recreation Department. "Additional construction above and beyond that originally planned, combined with some unexpected delays have brought us to this decision. Once the improvements are completed, not only will the Asheville Tourists have one of the finest minor league ballparks in the nation to call home, UNC Asheville and our youth baseball partners will be able to experience the thrill of playing on the field where legends are made.

"We look forward to hosting the remaining 2006 UNCA Bulldog baseball games scheduled for McCormick Field. However, in the interest of safety for both the players and the fans in the construction area, we are forced to delay this game," added Kisiah. "The Parks and Recreation Department, The Asheville Tourists and team owners Palace Sports are dedicated to providing the best experience for the players and fans. The investment in the facility by the City and Palace Sports demonstrates this commitment. We all look forward to hosting UNC Asheville Baseball at McCormick Field for many years to come."

UNC Asheville is scheduled to play eight more games at McCormick Field this year. The Bulldogs next game there will be their annual exhibition game with Asheville Tourists on Tuesday, April 4 starting at 7 p.m. Admission to that game will be free.

The UNC Asheville Baseball team will host a Blue-White scrimmage this Wednesday afternoon at Greenwood Field starting at 3 p.m. Admission will be free to this scrimmage.
