ROCK HILL, S.C. - No. 1 UNC Asheville scored three first half goals to move past No. 5 seed Charleston Southern, 3-1, in the semifinals of the Big South Women's Soccer Tournament Friday evening at Eagle Field on the campus of Winthrop University. The Bulldogs (13-5-0) will face No. 3 seed Liberty in the championship game Sunday afternoon at 2:00pm with an NCAA Tournament berth on the line.

UNCA's Joy Haynes tallied two scores to lead the Bulldogs to its sixth Big South championship game appearance, extending their League record. Haynes scored the first goal at 23:14 and the third tally at 36:46. Shoshana Fried notched her second goal of the tourney at the 32:31 mark for UNC Asheville, helping build a 3-0 lead. Charleston Southern's Katy Lange put the Lady Bucs on the scoreboard at 40:54 of the first half.

"It was an interesting game. We did well finishing our opportunities. Despite the lead, we didn't feel out of the woods (against Charleston Southern). CSU is always dangerous," said Asheville head coach Michelle Cornish.

The Bulldogs defense kept Charleston Southern in check, allowing just five shots in the game, including one in the second half. UNCA tallied 16 shots, 10 in the first half. In net, Michelle Mattos stopped three shots, while Miki Wilson had seven saves in the losing effort. Robyn Busha and Hilary McKay assisted on Haynes' first goal of the night. Charleston Southern, which made its third-straight semifinal appearance, ended its season at 8-12.

UNC Asheville defeated the Lady Flames in the regular-season, 4-1 on Oct. 10, and will meet Liberty in the tournament for the third time on Sunday. It will be the first match-up in the championship game. UNCA has one championship (1995), while the Lady Flames have two titles. Both programs have won 10 games in the tournament - sharing the League record. Sunday's game will be webcast live on The Big South EDGE presented by Aéropostale.
