NASHEVILLE, Tenn. - UNC Asheville Head Coach Julie Torbett earned her 200th career victory as the Bulldogs won their eighth straight match 30-27, 30-25, 30-24 over Lipscomb University at Allen Arena Thursday night.

Despite a 45-minute delay in the start time of the match, when one of the game officials was stuck in traffic due to a diesel spill on I-24, Asheville controlled the match from the defensive side out blocking Lipscomb 12-2 and out digging the Lady Bison 71-65.

Kristi Havens led the Bulldogs in the digs with 22 while Talia Ogle added 18 digs. Havens is now just 12 digs shy of 1,000 for her career. Rose Butler had nine kills and leading the way with six blocks. Ashely Wrightenberry added four blocks for the Bulldogs who improve to 10-2 on the season by sweeping their third straight opponent in three games.

"I was impressed with our defense tonight," said Torbett. "Our offensive numbers were not great but we passed the ball well and played great defense. Given the circumstances and the long wait to play, I thought we did a really good job of staying focused and came out strong in the match."

The Bulldogs were led offensively by 13 digs from Elif Unlu. Allison Lambert added nine kills as the `Dogs hit .240 as a team while holding Lipscomb to a .131 attack percentage.

The Lady Bison (3-11) were led by Jessica Turner with 15 kills while Lindsey Rutherford and Cara Wilber each had 10 kills. Ann Mullins had a match-high 26 digs but the Lady Bison committed 10 service errors and had less than a .100 attack percentage in both games two and three.

The victory tied Asheville's school record of eight-straight victories set by the 2003 team. Coach Torbett now has a 12 year career record of 200-180.

"It is a great milestone but it is made more special because I can share it with six seniors. This has been a great group to coach," said Torbett.

Asheville opens Big South Conference play on Saturday at 2 p.m. central time as it travels to Birmingham-Southern. The two teams split last season with each team winning on its home court.
