LEXINGTON, Va. - The UNC Asheville baseball team begins a three-game series at VMI at 2 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs are trying to end a five-game losing streak and pick up their first Big South Conference victories of the season.
Nathan Durham is riding an eight-game hitting entering the weekend. He leads the club with a .381 average with four doubles, a triple, one home run, and nine RBI. Josh Coyle is the only other Bulldog hitting over .300 with a .323 mark. He has four doubles, two home runs, and a team-high 12 RBI.
VMI is 9-10 on the year and is coming off an 8-3 victory over Norfolk State. The Keydets have two players who are hitting above .400. Kel Sweppenhiser is hitting .413 with four home runs and 16 RBI. Robert Crumpler is hitting .403 with a pair of home runs and 12 RBI. As a team, VMI is batting .316 on the year. Asheville is hitting .246 on the season.
First pitch on Friday is set for 2 p.m. The two teams will play on Saturday and Sunday with both games beginning at 1 p.m.
