ASHEVILLE, N.C.-- UNC Asheville will honor four seniors on Senior Day as the Bulldogs wrap up the regular season against Birmingham Southern on Saturday at 2 p.m. Asheville has secured the number three seed in next weeks Big South Tournament. BSC has won three of its last four and could finish fourth with a win.
UNC Asheville will recognize its four seniors playing their final regular season home game in the Justice Center. Andrea Clapp, Laura Kirby, Lindsey Roche, and Velinda Vuncannon will be honored before the game. Clapp is second on the team in scoring averaging 9.3 points and is tied for the team lead with 5.5 rebounds per game. Junior Kristal Hood continues to lead the Bulldogs averaging 13.3 points and 5.5 rebounds per contest.
Freshman Stacy Shepard is coming off a pair of strong games at Coastal Carolina and Charleston Southern. She scored 17 points against the Chanticleers and recorded a career best 13 rebounds at CSU.
The Panthers have won three of their last four and could still host a first-round game with a victory. Stacy Anthony leads the team averaging 10.5 points per game. Martina Knotkova is next averaging 8.4 points per game but leads the team at 9.2 points per game in Big South games. BSC is getting it done with defense allowing teams just 58.4 points per game. The Panthers are just 2-9 on the road this season and 1-6 in conference winning at Winthrop.
The Bulldogs will host a first round game in the Advance Auto Parts Big South Championships for the second straight year. UNCA is locked into the number three seed and will face either BSC, Charleston Southern, or Radford on Tuesday in the Justice Center.
To help the Bulldogs celebrate Senior Day, anyone whose first name is Laura, Lindsey, Andrea, or any name that begins with "V" will be admitted free to the game with ID.
