Dawn Turner is in her third year as Assistant Director of Compliance and Student Services at UNC Asheville.
Prior to Asheville, Turner worked at the Big South Conference for 12 years. During her tenure, she oversaw all aspects of the Big South Conference championships and was the primary administrative contact for men's and women's soccer, volleyball, men and women's basketball, baseball, softball, women's lacrosse and men's and women's tennis. She was also the league's liaison to the Council of Senior Woman Administrators and the Big South's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. She served a four-year term on both the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Tennis Committee and the NCAA Division I Volleyball Committee.
Turner came to the Big South in September 2002 from the NCAA National Office staff, where she served as an Assistant Director of Membership Services. In her role, she assisted in analyzing NCAA legislation and providing interpretations for member institutions in all three divisions. She also served as a primary liaison for Division II blueprint compliance reviews. In addition, Turner served as a liaison with Division I Athletic Certification for member institutions. This process involved conducting campus orientation and evaluation visits to member institutions involved in the 14-month certification process, as well as providing ongoing assistance for those same institutions.
Turner also served as a secondary liaison to the Division I National Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). In addition, she was involved in initial eligibility waivers, core course review and served as a presenter for the NCAA’s annual Regional Rules Seminars.
Prior to joining the NCAA staff, Turner spent three years at North Carolina State, first as Director of Compliance in 1999, then as Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance Services from 1999-2001. Turner also assisted in the school’s agent education program, employment monitoring program, camps and clinics and other duties.
Turner’s experience also includes a thorough knowledge of the Big South, as she spent three years as the Assistant Athletic Director at Radford University, overseeing women's sports, the compliance program and serving as the Senior Woman Administrator. She began her career with a seven-year stint at her alma mater, Francis Marion University, where she was the Compliance Coordinator.
A native of Cheraw, S.C., Turner received her Bachelor's Degree from Francis Marion University in Florence, S.C, and her Master of Sport Administration from Ohio University in Athens, OH. She is a member of Women Leaders in College Sports (formerly NACWAA) and Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society.
