Tyler Ferris has been hired as UNC Asheville’s new Assistant Athletic Director for Advancement, announced on Nov. 3 by Director of Athletics Janet R. Cone.
“We are excited to add Tyler to our advancement team,” said Cone. “He brings valuable experience from his previous institution and a skill set that will enhance our Bulldog Annual Scholarship Fund.”
Ferris comes to Asheville after three-plus years as the Assistant Director of Development with Marshall University’s Big Green Scholarship Foundation, where he was involved in all facets of development. He helped the Big Green’s annual scholarship fund surpass the $2M milestone for the first time, while also spearheading Marshall’s first-ever craft beer partnership with Country Boy Brewing.
Prior to his time at his alma mater, he worked 3 years as a Mortgage Loan Specialist followed by a brief stint in home security sales in 2019.
“Tyler is not only going to make an instant impact on our annual scholarship fund, but our athletic department as a whole,” added Associate Athletic Director for External Operations Aaron Bessey. “Tyler brings the energy, experience, and creativity we need to take our annual fund to the next level and I can’t wait for him to get started.”
“I am thrilled to join Asheville Athletics and cannot thank Janet Cone, Aaron Bessey and the rest of our Bulldog family for this opportunity,” said Ferris. “Asheville, North Carolina is an incredible community, and I look forward to connecting with new and old friends to help keep the momentum of this program rolling full steam ahead as we go ALL IN. I hope bringing an authenticity and genuine passion for bettering the student-athlete experience can resonate with the folks of Asheville.”
Ferris is a 2016 graduate of Marshall, with a Bachelor of Arts in Print Journalism with a minor in Marketing.
