Laura Smith has been on the Asheville women's golf coaching staff since Spring of 2022. 

"I'm happy to have been able to retain a valuable assistant in Laura Smith," said head coach Ross Cash. "Her knowledge of the program plus her playing background makes her an invaluable asset to what we're trying to do here at UNC Asheville." 

Prior to joining the staff at Asheville, she coached golf at Asheville Christian Academy for two seasons. 

Before getting into the coaching ranks, Smith played on the professional tour for five years. She won the Symetra Open in 2013, as well as the Michigan Open in 2011. She was also a participant in the 2010 US Open at Oakmont. 

Smith played golf for Michigan State where she posted three collegiate wins, was 2010 Big Ten Player of the Year, and represented team USA in the World University Games in 2010. Smith was a first team All-Conference selection for three years from 2008-10, as well as a member of the Division I All-America Team from 2008-10. Smith graduated with a Geography degree and a concentration in Meteorology.

Smith's hobbies include golf, photography, chasing storms, CrossFit, Golden Girls, hiking & enjoying the local restaurants and craft beer WNC has to offer. She lives with her husband Joey, and four-legged fur babies (Davo, Pip and Rallo). She also works as an operations manager for FedEx Ground.
