James Westfall joined the UNC Asheville Sports Medicine staff in July 2025.Â
Westfall has worked with Mission Sports Medicine since August 2022, working with McDowell County Schools. He has also worked with both of the men's and women's teams with Asheville City Soccer Club, as well as the Asheville Championship basketball tournament and the Southern Conference Basketball and Wrestling Championships.Â
Prior to returning to Asheville, Westfall worked with DCH Encore Rehabilitation from 2019-2021. He had a stop with Allegheny Health Network Sports Medicine from 2017-19, after a short stint with the Union Medical Group Bone & Joint Clinic in 2017. He was previously an Assistant Athletic Trainer at UNC Asheville from 2012-16, after stops at Emory & Henry (2011-12) and Adams State (2009-11).Â
His career also includes stops at ValleyWide Health Systems Inc. and UNC Pembroke.Â
Westfall hods a Bachelor's of Science in Physical Education and Athletic Training from SUNY Brockport (2004) and a Master's of Arts in Physical Education and Exercise Science and Fitness from UNC Pembroke (2006).Â
