Kim Cannon is in her third season as an assistant coach for the UNC Asheville track & field team. Cannon, who works with the throwers, coached two men to scoring in the shot put in the 2020 Big South Indoor Championships and guided Solomon McDonald to breaking the program's outdoor shotput record last spring.Â
She is no stranger to the Asheville area as she graduated from TC Roberson High School and was a member of the 3A Track & Field Championship team in 2009. Previously, she was the head coach at Hendersonville High School where Cannon coached a three-time state runner-up in the long jump, three state runner-up teams in the women's 4x200m and a 400m state runner-up. After high school, Cannon enrolled at Western Carolina where she competed in throwing events from 2010-2015. She was the SoCon runner-up in the javelin throw in both 2014 and 2015. She stayed on as a graduate assistant coach under former UNC Asheville Head Coach Danny Williamson in 2015. Cannon earned her BSED in Special Education in 2014 and went on to earn an MAED in Special Education in 2016. She is currently pursuing a master's degree in athletic leadership from Clemson University.
